After taking our customary winter break, FMburgh, the Pittsburgh FileMaker Developer Group, returns on the first Wednesday evening in February. That means our next meeting takes place on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 7:00 PM EST. We hope you can join us either in-person or virtually for this hybrid session.
The agenda for February’s meeting includes a preview of Claris Engage 2025, which takes place in Austin, TX at the end of March. Join us as Todd Weller presents his session Do More With Execute FileMaker Data API.
The Execute FileMaker Data API script step uses the same underlying functionality as the FileMaker Data API on a FileMaker host. With recent enhancements, it can now request, create, and update data in the current file, whether hosted or not, and receive the response without making a web service call to a host. The ability to search and update records using this powerful script step gives developers an alternative method to perform these operations, and to perform them outside the context of the current script, providing more power and options than ever before.
The presentation covers the similarities and differences between a web services call to the FileMaker Data API and the script step. From there, it covers the options for the script step and the various name-value pairs in the JSON object of the request by looking at practical examples of read, create, update, and delete actions. The goal is for everyone to gain a deeper understanding of how to use the Execute FileMaker Data API script step to streamline data management and add flexibility to their workflows.
As is our custom, we will open the floor to general Claris FileMaker discussion at the end of the meeting if time permits, so bring your questions. Hopefully, with a room full of Claris FileMaker experts, we’ll have the answers.
