The April 2024 meeting of FMburgh, the Pittsburgh FileMaker Developer Group, took place on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 7:00 PM EDT, as a hybrid session with options to attend in-person or remotely.
The agenda for the evening included a roundtable discussion centered around the topic Would You Rather…?. If you join FMburgh on a regular basis, you know that this topic has come up a few times in the past as we spent our time discussing various development techniques and why we do things a particular way. We’ve asked “Would you rather use global fields or global variables?” and “Would you rather use a button or a button bar?” among others. All of these questions sparked some great discussion among the group.
After over 18 months, we decided it was time to revisit this topic. We asked some old questions along with some new ones. Regardless of each person’s position, we had fun as we discussed the pros and cons of each approach, and we hopefully learned a few things along way, too. As is our custom, we opened the floor to general FileMaker discussion at the end of the meeting.
