The May meeting of FMburgh, the Pittsburgh FileMaker Developer Group, took place on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 7:00 PM EDT in an online-only format.
The agenda for the evening included a roundtable discussion centered around the topic Would You Rather…? (Redux). Last year, we held a roundtable where we spent our time discussing various development techniques and why we do things a certain way. For example, we asked “Would you rather use global fields or global variables?” and “Would you rather use a button or a button bar?” among others. All of these questions sparked some great discussion among the group.
After almost 12 months, we decided it was time to revisit this topic. We asked “How do you send email from your FileMaker solution?” and “Do you use a tab control or a button bar / slide control combo?” among the new questions this time around. As we covered each subject, some attendees felt strongly one way or the other, and for others the answer was “It depends.” Regardless of each person’s position, we had some fun as we discussed the pros and cons of each approach, and we learned a few things along way, too.
As is our custom, we opened the floor to general FileMaker discussion after the roundtable. We also did our best to provide answers to the questions that were posed to the group. We also revealed the results from April’s post-meeting survey.
