The agenda for the evening includes a roundtable discussion centered around the topic “What’s In A Name?”. The FileMaker Platform does not require tables, fields, scripts, layouts, custom styles or layout themes to be named a specific way. However, it is a best practice to use some type of naming convention when developing a FileMaker solution. As new features are added to the platform which require a name, it can be argued that the need to follow a naming convention is constantly increasing.
Our agenda for this meeting of FMburgh includes a discussion of our preferred naming conventions for all of parts of our FileMaker solutions. We are NOT determining which naming convention is the best way or the only way. Our goal is to share ideas so that you can determine which naming convention is “right” for you. And don’t worry. While our title may have been inspired by the writings of William Shakespeare, we are not holding the discussion in iambic pentameter.
As is our custom, we plan to hold the organized discussion time to about an hour or so, and allow for additional discussion and networking time following the presentation.
After a brief introduction at 6:30, we will enjoy dinner before starting the official discussion. A selection of Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches are on the evening’s menu along with an assortment of chips, cookies and beverages. If you have any special dietary considerations, please make a note when submitting your RSVP. We will do our best to plan the meal accordingly, but please understand if we are unable to accommodate every restriction.
While we encourage everyone to attend in-person for the camaraderie and sharing of ideas (and food), we have begun to experiment with various configurations to allow remote access. This meeting marks another one of these experiments, and we plan to make it available via web conferencing to allow members to attend if they are unable to be at Bakery Square.
